Take a recent order we had from a client in Malaysia: they needed two sets of 220 kW ac electric motor, 4-pole three-phase motors to run a deep-well water pump at their factory. These motors work a steady, moderate speed (about 1,480 rotations per minute) on their local power grid-which is perfect for the pump. If the motor spun too fast, it'd wear out the pump's blades and cause it to "airlock" (basically, stop pulling water up).

We usually supply these as vertical units: they connect directly to the pump's shaft, so you don't have to mess around with tricky alignment-great for the tight space down a well. If the customer's pump is set up horizontally, though, we can switch it to a horizontal design and link it with a rigid coupling instead.
These motors are also dust- and water-resistant (rated IP65), so they hold up fine outdoors in Malaysia's hot, rainy weather-no need to worry about moisture damage. If the motor's going to be near the wellhead (and get splashed a lot), we can upgrade it to IP66 for even better water protection.
We've added a double seal around the motor shaft, too-keeps groundwater and damp air from getting inside. Up top, there's a fan and ventilation duct to stop the motor from overheating, even if the pump room doesn't have great airflow. We also throw in a forced air system, so the motor can run at full power for hours on end without overheating.
Last but not least, there's a reverse-prevention switch: if someone wires the motor wrong and it starts spinning backward, the switch kicks in. That stops the pump from reversing, which would otherwise break the check valve (and other parts).
